...
Through over 37 years of merciless and corrupt dictatorship, which has imposed upon the population of Togo misery, illiteracy, and massive violations of human rights, we have realized the need for us to take charge of our own destiny, the need to educate our youth and work hard for the development of our country. For long, the government-controlled press was the only source of information available in the country. That press indulged in deception and misrepresentation on the actual situation of the Togolese populations, and on the social, political, or economical situation of the country. Nowadays, alternative media exist: private newspapers, party and associations bulletins, individual or organizations websites, etc…
The government does not spare any means to prevent Togolese citizens, in Togo, from accessing the free media, nor does it want news of their abominations to reach the free world. Websites are block at will, foreign radio stations are jammed on occasion, and journalists are persecuted through various methods (threats, arbitrary arrests, torture, confiscation of papers, destruction of infrastructure, etc…)
Bâtir Le Togo is committed to doing its best to bring light on the plight of the Togolese people and to inform the International Community on the true nature of the regime in place in Togo for more than 37 years.
This section "International Campaign against Dictatorship in Togo" is the portal to its various initiatives and to the initiatives of other organizations, as well as to numerous resources that exist on the Internet about the abuses and failures of the Eyadéma regime.
